Have a Dreamwidth now [Tuesday April 12th, 2011: 09:16pm]
Lauren
[The dragon is |stressedunsettled]

I decided it was finally time to at least have an account with Dreamwidth, I'll probably post there about as often as I post here, so uh, don't expect much more activity there either. Maybe when I actually decide to make a post there I'll also figure out how to make things cross post here? We'll see how ambitious I'm feeling when that time comes. Meanwhile, feel free to add me over there, same username, easy to find!
Also it occurs to me that I never officially announced here that I joined twitter quite a while ago, still same username, and I do post there more frequently than here, yes I'm one of those people...

Auction full of shinies for a good cause [Monday July 20th, 2009: 05:41pm]
Lauren
shadesong is participating in a Blogathon next weekend, she will be blogging for BARCC (Boston Area Rape Crisis Center). A couple of months ago she explained her plans for this year:
"Every half hour, I will post a flash-sized piece of something I've previously written. Wind Tunnel Dreams, Shayara, Places You Haunt, whatever. This frees me up to handle Team Venture and still do Blogathon, and beneath the fictionbits, I'll narrate our wacky Blogathon in realtime.

And since the auctions last year were so successful, I'm doing them again.

So. Artists. Crafters. Musicians. Makers of things. What I would like to ask of you is this: If you have ever been inspired to make something based on one of my stories or poems, please consider making it and letting me auction it for BARCC."

sheistheweather and I created two pieces for this auction, calligraphied illustrated poems by shadesong. She posted the auction items this morning, ours are "Time" here and "Cinderella" here. There are many many other beautiful things in the auctions this year, you should check them all out!

Our garage which was previously being referred to as a giant walk-in refrigerator has just upgraded itself to a giant walk-in freezer. In other news, frozen diet coke is not tasty.

At the request of s00j who was demanding entertainment and vicarious enjoyment of the snow, we built a lovely snow pirate this afternoon!

More pictures of elocinnuala, ladyaraia and I playing in the snow are posted beneath this nice LJ cut hereCollapse )

Location of Nicole's Phone [Tuesday November 11th, 2008: 07:27pm]
Lauren
[Sitting |Cerulia, now with Nicole's phone]

elocinnuala has asked me to share with y'all that "the hippy had a brain fart and left her phone where it would do her no good". Which means, Nicole's phone is at Cerulia, and she is not, and will not be again until Friday. She says she'll check her email everyday at the library until then, but getting a hold of her is going to be rather difficult.
Edit: If anyone happens to be traveling to Olympia from Seattle between now and Friday morning and would be willing to help a lost phone find it's way home I'm sure it would be much appreciated.

random porch gifts [Saturday October 25th, 2008: 12:00am]

[The dragon is |curiouscurious]

Tonight ladyaraia and I got home to find: eight bowls on our porch. Four dark blue with red and yellow cherries, and four light blue with small blue flowers. Good soup bowls. With stickers from Value Village. No note though, and no random "has a present for you" comments that we can recall. Grateful to the mysterious bowl fairy, we needed more bowls here, but terribly confused...
Edit: Mystery SOLVED! Angi is a very very awesome bowl fairy :)

camera hunting [Tuesday September 16th, 2008: 10:10pm]
Lauren
[The dragon is |curiouscurious]

Dear Lazyweb,
I am looking for a new camera. My old one is a Fujifilm Finepix A101, it was given to me as a high school graduation gift 6 years ago, it's a 1.3 megapixel with only 2x digital zoom and no other real adjustment possibilities. I have realized that my camera phone has better capabilities than this. Ideally a new camera would have good optical zoom, higher megapixels, and some other things I can adjust for say taking good pictures in medium/low light without flashing the heck out of the scene, and be in the $250 or less range. Have not really seriously begun to research this but I figured I would start here. Anyone have recommendations good or bad? Things I should really be looking for as features that I haven't heard of yet?

car asplode, again [Monday June 23rd, 2008: 09:07pm]
Lauren
I'd been noticing a bit of a high pitched whirr from the engine yesterday, knew the fan belt was wearing thin, and was thinking about taking it in to a mechanic soonish... Turns out soonish is nowish. It made this lovely kurchunk gasnick scccrrrrrr noise, and then there was smoke. I managed to pull over, call a tow truck, and persuade my mother to rescue me from the mechanic's and take a tour of our new house :) Hope that a fan belt is a fairly quick fix if not a cheap one... We've got about one load of stuff left at the apartment that glitch25 has very very kindly offered to help us out with, so things are ok really. Glad it didn't break before the big moving days! Disappointed that I missed the book reading that Jacqueline Carey was doing at the University Bookstore though. Home safe, life is good!
